Winter Chatter

At lunch I heard someone say she would never move to California because, “I would miss having four seasons.

I was surprised to hear someone sticking up for winter. High temperatures have reached only the low teens recently, and ten inches of snow fell over the last week. Plus, one of the quintessential joys of winter is complaining about winter.

On my walk tonight, I realized that this woman didn’t necessarily like winter. She didn’t mention winter at all.

Is weather cycling a spectator sport? Do others get as bored as I do when the weather is the same three days in a row? Can a person become homesick for transience? What do people chat about on elevators in California? Am I the only person who feels more like a mammal when it grows cold?

I need to listen more carefully, I guess.

Leave a reply, but please be fancy.
